Hi

I have a Sony A6000 with a 50mm lens as an old hand-me-down. I've been able to take some pretty nice pics on scenic hiking trails, but I've never photographed in direct sun or people.

I want to take college graduation pics with my friends tomorrow afternoon (it should be clear and sunny weather) and we're wearing black gowns in front of brick buildings and green lawns.

Is there a mode or some specific settings for this kind of scene that you'd recommend?

When I try to take pics of subject in direct sun right now, either the background or the subject is blurry and/or way too bright/dark (oppositely bright or dark, like the subject is floating in darkness or is the darkness lol)
