We have a loveable, good dog who is a mutt of unknown stock, he seems to be a Shepherd or Pyrenees mix.
He smells to the high heavens. We've tried a lot - we've changed food brands, tried going grain free, medicated shampoo with a full bath, gentle wipedowns and brushings, allergy shots and allergy pills. I've washed his beds and vacuumed the house thoroughly, and even put in some air filters to try and weed out potential allergens.
And to be clear - he HATES getting the allergy shots and at this point the vet doesn't want to deal with trying to administer them. We have a fantastic 'No-fear' vet clinic but he just doesn't put up with it, hence trying the pills. Getting him any other kinds of shots will be impossible, so that's out.
In spite of the regimen and attendance, the smells persist or inevitably return. No matter what we try to do, the poor fellow is still ends up licking his paws and belly and smells incredibly tangy.
The funny part is that he doesn't look bad or seem to be suffering except for the itch.
He is otherwise quite happy to get along and has normal bowel movements etc.
I feel somewhat at a loss here having tried everything short of a full allergy panel.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any suggestions?
