Looking for a Greek tutor (beginner level – online or Sydney based/ private or group classes)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a Greek tutor to continue my learning journey.

I started learning Greek last year and was previously taking private lessons, but unfortunately it became too expensive and the time difference made it difficult to continue regularly. It’s also been quite hard to find accessible Greek classes here in Sydney. I couldn’t take the classes I found down the street from home because of my work hour clashing. Now that I have a new job and can take these classes, I’m unfortunately too behind and the teacher won’t accept new students.

I’m still at a beginner level. I can read and write a little, but I definitely need structured help to keep improving and build confidence in speaking and understanding.

Greek is really important to me because I’m with a Greek partner, and I would love to be able to communicate better with his family and culture. In the long term, I also want to be able to raise bilingual children who can speak both my mother tongue and Greek.

I’m ideally looking for someone patient, consistent, affordable and able to work with beginners either online or in person around Sydney.

If anyone is a tutor or can recommend someone, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Need help understanding a sudden dog bite at a dog park – experienced social dog, confused about triggers

I’m looking for help understanding a recent dog park incident involving my dog, as I’m trying to figure out what may have contributed behaviourally.

My dog is an American Staffy x Red Cattle mix. I’ve had him since he was a puppy. He has always been highly social, playful, and high energy with a rough play style. He has regularly attended busy dog parks in the past with both small and large dogs and has never shown aggression or bitten another dog before.

We recently moved. Our local dog park is usually empty, so when we found another nearby park a few minutes drive away, that is often busy with large dogs, we thought it would be a suitable park for him with the other large dogs.

At the park, my dog was off lead and initially appeared excited sniffing, moving between dogs, and attempting to initiate play.

At one point, he approached a smaller dog (puppy). The interaction looked a bit rough so I moved in to manage it. Around this time, I overheard the owner telling my dog to “fuck off” (I was right behind her with my dog), which made me unsure how the interaction was being perceived.

Later, a new dog entered the park. A few large dogs were sniffing and circling it. My dog moved toward this interaction and attempted to jump onto the new dog. I immediately leashed him and had him sitting beside me to settle him.

Shortly after, I was told by another owner that my dog had bitten the new dog. I did not see the exact moment of the bite happen. The bite was described as a single puncture with no significant injury/bleeding. We checked on the other dog and followed up appropriately with the owners, who were understanding.

  • My dog has no prior history of biting or aggression.
  • Generally social but very high energy/rough play style.
  • New environment (different park than usual).
  • Park was busy with many unfamiliar dogs.
  • My dog was off lead and running around before the incident

What I’m trying to understand. I’m not trying to excuse the behaviour, I’m genuinely trying to understand what may have contributed so I can prevent it happening again.

Could this type of incident be related to -

  • overstimulation / arousal stacking in a busy environment?
  • entering a new high energy dog group without familiarity?
  • misread social signals during group interactions?
  • something I may have missed in early body language?

Also, how common is it for a dog with no prior bite history to escalate like this in a crowded park setting?

I’m feeling quite shaken and upset about the situation, so I’m trying to understand it as objectively as possible. I’m currently reassessing whether dog parks are appropriate for him going forward.
