I have a two year old Bengal named Simon and a one year old Bengal named Ollie. They have always been good at using the litter box. We moved to a new house in November (and added a puppy in March) and since we moved Simon has been having accidents. (Just a note - we did try the quarantining to a small area methods for 3 days to 1 week for both adjustments and the cats seemed to do well other than this one issue from Simon.)
We assumed that the accidents were due to stress from the move, but now it seems like he is not using his litter box almost at all and is instead using corners, bookshelves, bags, and even places like the middle of the floor or the high chair. He otherwise doesn't behave like he is stressed; he is a very social cat and is always in the middle of everything, affectionate and playing, eating and drinking well, plays with the puppy and Ollie, etc. He went to the vet as recently as April and she doesn't see any medical issue that would cause this. We have 2 litter boxes in 2 different places in our house and I am about to add a third. I scoop the litter every 2-3 days and change it out every 2 weeks.
Do you have any more tips about re-training a cat to use a litter box? I know we have had some life changes in the last 6 months and maybe it's that, but I also don't love my daily scavenger hunt to find and clean his pees and poops everywhere. Do I need to put a litter box in every room of the house? Is there a better litter I should have been using? (I have always used Purina Tidy Cats).
Please be kind if I am doing something wrong - I am trying my best and love him dearly. He is my first cat.
