Gratifying review of my latest sci-fi silliness.

Gratifying review of my latest sci-fi silliness.

Christ knows it's not gonna make me rich, but at least somebody liked it. If it sounds like your cup of tea, give it a go and be part of a very exclusive club. Available everywhere books are sold, apart from actual real life book shops.

So my book's available on Google as well as Amazon, priced at 3.99 in both places. I ran a price promo on Google, so the book was free throughout April. Amazon changed the book's price to zero, and it remains at zero as of the today. The Google promo has finished. My question is should I just wait to see if Amazon changes the price back to the normal 3.99, or should I try to force the change through the dashboard?

So my latest novel came out a few weeks ago and the reviews have started to come in. I was amused by this one pictured - I feel like I should apologise for making her laugh, but I'm glad I did (assuming she was laughing at the funny bits and not the sad bits).

I also had an interview about the book with a nice chap on BBC local radio, and it went pretty well although at points I was barely making any sense even to myself.

The other pic shows me at a local craft fair where I sold a grand total of one book. The library was selling off their books for 20p each so I had no chance!

Anyways, that's how my glorious career as a sci-fi writer is going. Pretty sure I'll be rich and famous any...day...now....

It's a proper league like, not just a casual kick about. I'm 48 and our team is all old bastards like me and we were playing a bunch of 20-somethings. The ball was played square and just sat up beautiful and I caught it perfect and we won 2-1 thanks very much. Anyway, that feeling will keep me going all week.

I've sold a few books off the back of nice people recommending them, so here's me paying it forward.

To wit, a list of indie books which I've really enjoyed, mostly sci-fi. None are perfect, some are quite rough around the edges, but all have something to love.

⭐ Anything by RB Lamb, especially The Dog, his clever and anarchic biography of Diogenes the philosopher.

⭐ Early Adopter by Drew Harrison, short stories in the vein of Black Mirror or the Twilight Zone.

⭐ The Shadow Over Psyche Station by Yuval Nordic, claustrophobic cosmic horror sci-fi which reminded me of Event Horizon.

⭐ Puppet Strings by Dean Kelly, knockabout cyberpunk thriller with a comic heart.

⭐ On Whose Silence by Rui Batista, lyrical and impressionistic account of a medieval battle.

⭐ Crystals of Dead Lakes by Kim Aaron, wildly varied and inventive horror and sci-fi tales.

⭐ The Vow by Lilypearl Colman, impeccably researched and at times brutal tale set in Scandinavia in the 11th Century.

⭐ The Never Not Yes by Jonathan Epps, a disparate group of survivors rub each other up the wrong way after societal collapse. A bit like Station Eleven.

⭐ A Tangle of Dongs by V.A. Gilman. A lunatic, genital-obsessed comic crime caper. Has to be read to be believed.

⭐ Any of Ray Gregory's short story collections, twisty tales often with a sci-fi flavour.

⭐ The Wayback Machine by Daniel Falatko, a former music journalist released from prison spills the beans about the dark side of the music industry, and draws malign attention to himself in the process.

⭐ A Low Diving Bird by Libby Copa, elegantly written story about fractured relationships in the wake of the US civil war.

⭐ The Enodia Enigma by Christopher Wright, slow burn sci-fi mystery set in two entwining timeframes.
