Waterlogged leaf - Next steps?

I’ve never owned an orchid (and told myself I never would), but my sweet husband with good intentions got me one (“wave orchid” I believe) for Valentine’s Day. Everything was going surprisingly well until it wasn’t. The surface roots are browning and brittle, but the potted roots are green so I bought a well draining, orchid soil mix to repot with. I trimmed back the bloom stem once it yellowed and a few days later I had a waterlogged leaf. There’s a new leaf growing from the crown. I think that’s about all the information I have, so what’s next? Do I trim the waterlogged leaf? If so, at what point on the leaf do I trim? Do I wait to repot until the new leaf is fully emerged and the waterlogged one is healed? If I wait, what should I do about the browning surface roots without negatively impacting the potted roots? I appreciate any and all insight!
