I've been quietly building this for the past few weeks and finally feel ready to share.
The idea: upload a photo of your pet, type a prompt describing the vibe you want
(or just describe your pet's personality — my cat is perpetually judging everyone),
and AI generates a custom art print that goes on a t-shirt or tote bag.
What I actually wanted to solve: every "custom pet portrait" service out there
sends your photo to a human artist and you wait 2 weeks, or the sellers provide some limited templates to generate design for you. I wanted something where
YOU control the creative direction in real time. Because I believe people want something unique to represent their identify, and everyone can be their own designer.
Some things I learned building this:
- Printful integration is surprisingly smooth until it isn't
- Getting AI to capture a pet's actual personality (nervous, grumpy, regal)
is way harder than generating a generic cute animal
- Nobody tells you how annoying Shopify's OAuth changes are until you're
debugging at 2am
Still very early, lots to fix. But I'd love honest feedback —
especially if you're a pet owner, would this be something you'd actually use
or gift to someone?
