I'm an Emerald 3 jungler, so take this for what you will, but I prefer to never have comms on so I don't get baited by bad pings.
So how do I play without pings from teammates? Three things:
[1] Learn to read the mini map. I often spent 30% of the time just looking at the mini map as I move around the map. I can see wards, flashes, priority, everything. Instead of relying on a teammate's ping for a gank, you can just look at the map, identify a good position, and then act on it.
[2] Read the score board to see who is strong and who is weak. You can detect this based on CS, KDA, and item builds. I would say that item builds are the best indicator of strength as items represent the current "power" a champion has. Checking relative levels is also helpful as each champion gets lots of stats per level in the game. So this way instead of your losing top laner asking for a gank and you listening to him, you can just say "oh my mid is strong and their mid has no mobility, let me gank him" and then boom you averted a bad play and made a good play without getting baited.
[3] Use the F keys to pan to specific champions as you move around the map. If you're uncomfortable doing this, just click on the mini map where your allies are and then after a few seconds press space to reset your camera. You want to get used to doing this as you need to be able to see how fights develop as you approach for a flank or a gank.
Realize the psychology of players is not only to win the game, but to destroy the enemy. A lot of laners would rather you help them destroy their enemy rather than full clear you jungle, or contest a dragon, or gank another lane where you have a higher chance of success. This is why you must mute pings guys.
