I love having and adding puzzles in my campaigns. I feel like it forces players to think outside the box and not everything relies on a dice roll.

Last session I had a riddle to solve to open a door. Josh(not real name) figured it out IRL. Brian (also not real name) got mad and said it didn’t fit Josh’s character which is a Half-orc himbo with an intelligence of 8. Brian said the character was too stupid to figure out the riddle and it shouldn’t count that Josh actually did.

I would like to keep using puzzle mechanics but don’t know how to deal with player/character differences. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions offered.
