Soviet Legend on Fuji: Mir-1V (Grand Prix Brussels 1958) + Fujifilm X-S20
Testing the legendary Mir-1V (M42 mount) during the London blossom season. This lens carries a significant historical pedigree, and I wanted to see how it resolves on the 26MP X-Trans IV sensor.
Nomenclature & Origins:
Mir (Мир): Translates directly to "Peace" or "World" — a symbolic name used for one of the most successful Soviet optical designs.
V (В): Indicates the manufacturing plant. This specific copy was produced at the Vologda Optical-Mechanical Plant (VOMZ), identified by the logo that looks like a stylized lens/pentaprism with an arrow.
Technical Observations:
Optics: Based on the Flektogon retrofocus design. It won the Grand Prix at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair.
Character: The lens is known for its "gentle" sharpness and unique flare resistance (or lack thereof, which creates a beautiful low-contrast vintage look in direct light).
