Hi, I (American) recently started working for a very small start-up in South Korea that has an app that we primarily market to the United States and Canada.

I am in charge of paid advertisements, and I have started to record UGC-style content myself to use in our ads. Surprisingly, the results have been pretty good for our small budget.

As I am not a UGC creator by trade, I really suck at making certain types of UGC videos, like narration style or while using our app. We want to expand our UGC portfolio, but we currently have little budget to pay UGC creators, which is why I have been making the videos... especially if it seems people are charging $100+ per video. I am all about people getting paid for the work and effort they do, but I just can't figure out how small brands are supposed to go forward in the UGC market, especially if they don't have even a physical product for gifted collabs, ya know?

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is it really over $100+ per video? Even if it's just 5~10 seconds long and doesn't require talking? But even videos with talking are over $100 for 5~10 seconds?
  2. How much is the going rate for raw footage? I am pretty good at editing the videos to the style we know works, so wondering if this is a cheaper option, like only receiving raw footage instead of a completely edited video.
  3. My boss said that if we can get other UGC videos to try in our paid ads and the results seem promising, we can switch over to paid collaborations, but I have really been struggling to find creators who might want to do a free collab for a video or two to use in their own portfolio. I always feel bad asking.

Does anyone have any tips?
It's been fun making UGC-content for my company, and I do actually want to start a side gig myself (maybe go FT with it so I can stay home with my toddler), but I'm forsaking my other responsibilities because I spend so much time making content.

Also, if anyone is interested in a collab to use in your portfolio and hopefully switch to paid collabs, please help a working mom out so I can keep my job and sanity (insert cry face)
