Like the title says, I’m looking for honest advice on the exact variables of the situation I’m in, especially from people who have a career with a CS major or are actively taking courses for it.
I’m 20 years old, just got an associates for General Studies, and have the option to transfer to a 4 year college with my core credits fulfilled because of it. I have always considered CS but started growing concerned with how saturated the market is. Market aside though, I’m not completely knew to computers. I built my own PC and one of my side hobbies for years has been picking apart video games and learning how they work on a technical level (while the coding aspect never stuck to me, I feel like that was due to wanting to keep things mentally simple rather than failing at it) and I am genuinely interested in learning at least one coding language. I did learn Shell in windows a decent bit as a start per my CS friend’s advice, and I seem to get the hang of it, and I’m well aware how much patience and composure coding requires. Now, where I’m questioning if it’s right for me is first of all, location. I live in the tri-state area, and I’m unsure if that’s a good thing because of the opportunities, or a bad thing because of competitiveness. I don’t need anything luxurious really, just a career to live comfortably. Given all this, do you think this is a good option for me? Is there anything I desperately need to know before considering this?
