For some reason someone on the admin team thought it would be a good idea to run all the staff photos through AI and create animated pictures of us to post on the doors of our room as some weird teacher appreciation “gift”?? Not only is generativeAI deeply problematic in and of itself but what message are we sending to kids when we punish them for using AI on their assignments as well as the fact that several students this year have been punished for running teacher and student images through AI for nefarious reasons?? The worst part about it is when I explain to coworkers and friends why this is an issue they look at me like I’m stupid. A student even asked me if I consented to that, and at that moment, I realized that some 15 year olds are more capable and aware than the people running a public school of almost 2000 kids. I could go on and on about why the decision to do this was so dumb but I trust everyone in the comments to give a good opinion. Happy teacher appreciation week!
