UPDATE: 2022 Model S Long Range HV Battery Replacement Outcome (Better Than Expected)
A few days ago I got the “high voltage battery performance limited” warning. Service mode showed BMS_a067_CAC_Imbalance-Limiting, and Tesla ended up replacing the full HV battery under warranty.
For context, the car has about 42k miles and was originally rated at 405 miles. My battery wasn’t at 70% health or anything like that. It was probably somewhere around mid/high 80s based on Tessie and what the car was showing. I usually just charge to 70-80%.
Near the end, the range had started looking pretty bad. Last year I remember seeing around 288 miles at 80%. Right before the error, it was more like mid 250s at 80%, and around 235 miles at 70%.
Tesla’s repair notes said the issue was caused by “calculated amp hour capacity imbalance between bricks within a module.”
Invoice says they replaced the HV battery with:
REMAN(1728230-01-H)
Another interesting thing is the invoice also says:
“Retrofit Revision -H HV Battery On Vehicles With Revision -F HV Battery”
So it looks like my car originally had a revision F pack, and they installed a revision H pack. They also had to rework the floor panel/header and cut HV battery studs to fit it.
I was honestly pretty nervous after reading all the reman battery horror stories on here, but so far the outcome seems way better than I expected.
After the replacement, while it was charging, I kept checking the range and it was consistently projecting around 400 miles at 100%. Once it hit 80%, it showed 322 miles, which projects to about 402 miles at 100%.
I know it can still recalibrate and maybe drop a little over time, so I’m not calling it a perfect battery yet, but so far it looks really strong.
I drove it after pickup and the range seemed stable and it was a 10 miles drive.
Also noticed the underside of the new battery looks different, almost bronze/gold compared to what I remember before. Not sure if that means anything, but it lines up with the newer revision pack on the invoice.
Overall, I went into this expecting the worst and somehow it looks like I may have gotten a really healthy replacement pack. Figured I’d share because I was doomscrolling a ton before getting mine done.
