In the chapter dunn was discussing beyonder characteristics , he then said two things which kinda confused me

1. he said it makes him more powerfull but slows his advancments, why? there is no direct correlation or explanation

2. he said old neil would have been a great addition if he had died naturally(from what i understand), but he just said he could only consume characteristics from the same pathway.

it was just a bit confusing and i would like if someone can clarify it for me
