Objectivity on Ukraine conflict
The conflict is dripping with narrative and denialism on either side of the center leaning left and the 'very' left.
I'm genuinely having problems distinguishing between what's real in the conflict and what isn't.
I don't trust centrist or conservative media or influencers on this subject, as they're all liars. I won't humour their sources.
As far as views from the left goes, in the past 4ish months I've witnessed discourse based on a number of different subjects, including:
- the level of nazism in Ukraines military
- the ultimate fate of abducted children, or even if they were actually abducted
- Whether Russia actually interfered (on any level) with Canadian or U.S democracy
- the level or severity of Russian war crimes
- who started the conflicts prior to the crimean war
- Nato involvement, proxy manipulation
- the level of cruelty of the Russian gov toward civillians
- The fate of Ukrainian conscript avoiders
I consider myself 'very' left, but I legitimately do not feel any affinity to the Russian gov or military. I'm also pretty pissed with the Ukrainian gov making statements that back Isreal, or war mongers like Freeland suggesting we spread drone tech beyond this conflict.
I've seen the dismissal or downplaying of documented aggression, war crimes, or enviromental related crimes on either side by the Canadian Left.
I'd give anything for some real clarity and concensus from the left as a whole on this conflict.
How do we reach real consensus by balancing out hyperbole and fact? How do we challenge tainted opinions and obvious dismissals with hard evidence?
I legitimately don't want this to be a hot button issue or an excercise in absolutism. I'm just trying to figure the right way to personally look at the problem.
