Hello all, I am applying this upcoming cycle and am wondering how to approach this issue.
I graduated in May of 2025 with a 3.5c/3.2s gpa with an upward trend from my primary university. In the summer between Soph/Junior year, I decided to take a calculus course requirement at a community college .
I first attempted the calculus class in summer of 2023 but due balancing life and pre-med extracurriculars, I wasn't able to finish the class and instead of getting a Withdraw or a refund of the course, I thought it would be best to ignore it and try it another summer, leaving me with an F in the class. I realize this decision was stupid but, at the time, wasn't aware of the National Student Clearinghouse database which would come back to bite me as I'm requesting my transcripts for AMCAS.
Summer of 2024, I redid the class through an online institution and got an A in the class. This is the credit I transferred over to my official primary university transcript, which allowed me to fulfill my calculus prerequisite to graduate.
Like I said, I didn't think much of the original attempt but now realize it may have a drastic impact on my overall gpa, pushing me from a small shot at MDs, to virtually none at all.
Asking if someone has clarification on how AMCAS/Schools would look at this or how I can go about it. I know I have to submit all post-secondary coursework, but would that F really get included in the overall GPA and will it screen me out from schools? Is there a way to list the course to not be included? Is there somewhere I can let adcoms know about the situation. Would using the new "Other Impactful Experiences" Section help?
Thank you all for ur time and good luck this cycle if applying!
