So I do have social media accounts. I don't use my government name for them. They are not attached to the email address I use for everyday things. I would have no reason to post about my job besides "yay! I got the job" or general pissing and moaning. My FB is set to private.

What is the protocol when prospective employers ask about my social media accounts? Because we all know that companies have no qualms about stalking accounts and firing people for their political beliefs and affiliations. For the record, my SM presence is quite political and I support progressive policies and advocate for marginalized communities.

Do I tell employers that I don't have social media? In which case I would be lying and that's grounds for termination. Do I tell them my social media is never work related therefore irrelevant? They literally won't find me if they look for me under the name on my resume/application, just on job sites like Indeed or ZipRecruiter. Do companies go digging into IP addresses (I am currently raw dogging the internet quite a bit because I can't afford a VPN at the moment)? Are companies actually spending money buying people's data so they can reject them or terminate them? Can't tell anymore in the age of rampant data collection and AI.

How do I handle this?
