magical realism recs in the vein of A Curse for the Homesick- Laura Brooke Robson
I’m not a rereader, but I’ve read this one twice in the last year. Looking for similar recommendations :)
other books I’ve loved:
-Spells for Forgetting / Adrienne Young
-Garden Spells / Sarah Addison Allen
-The Raven Cycle / Maggie Stiefvater
-The Unmaking of June Farrow / Adrienne Young
-Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe / Heather Webber
Big reader since I was a kid- so I’ve loved books across genres + not afraid to explore! Those are just specific to the genre I’m mainly interested in rn.
extended info on what I specifically liked from A Curse for Forgetting:
-remote island, belonging/close walkable community feeling
-exploring trapped vs home
-a romance in there that’s more like a soulmate- someone who truly sees you and has that little bit of magic only you two understand- inevitable in a thousand lifetimes kinda feel
-slow burn is good but i don’t want betrayal -not so big on true enemies to lovers but could be persuaded if the plot is good enough
-I don’t want to be left emotionally wrecked- give me something good with a happy (or happy ish) ending
-love magical realism
-love two converging timelines past vs present coming together
-I get super attached and into books so I can’t do anything super grim or desolate. it will wreck my mental health. i need something that reminds me of the good in the world/soulmates/the beauty of the world and belonging and poetry and friendship and love
