I’m bringing home a puppy this summer and I already have a three-year-old dog at home.

For those of you who have gone from one dog to two, how did you handle the first meeting? Did you take them for a short walk together before going inside, or did you let them meet at home right away?

I’m also thinking about the sleeping situation. My current dog sleeps in the bed, but two dogs in the bed will probably be a bit too crowded. For those who have been in the same situation, how did you solve it? Did the older dog keep sleeping in the bed while the puppy slept in their own spot, or did you change the routine for both dogs?

I won’t be using a crate, so I’m especially interested in how people handled the sleeping setup without one.
