Is this a possible implication of the CASS review?
For context, I’m 17 and I see a psychiatrist every few months to get treatment for some issues like PTSD and anxiety. however in an appointment, I wanted to confirm with her in advance that I have a diagnosis of persistent, well-documented gender dysphoria (I’m considering going private for top surgery when I turn 18 and this is one of the clinics requirements).
It took her a very long time to tell me whether I had this documented or not, she was being very vague, basically telling me she “didn’t like using labels” and “treats specific symptoms instead of labels as a whole”. After like 15 minutes she eventually let me know I did have everything documented.
So since me being trans and having gender dysphoria was brought up, she started talking about studies on transgender individuals being more likely to have a diagnosis of autism compared to cisgender people, she then asked me if I had ever considered autism. She never gave me any other reason as to why I would have considered having autism, it very well came across like the only reason she brought it up is because I’m trans. I know people with autism struggle with things like socialising, which I do struggle with but surely my anxiety and ptsd would explain that side of things? Even then, before I had those issues there was never any difficulty in my childhood socialising with other kids, I’ve never had any other mental health professionals suggest autism. personally I don’t think I have autism and haven’t had any reason to think otherwise. It just kinda came across like she was saying being transgender is a symptom of autism or something, it really rubbed me the wrong way.
