Time Stands Still is a dark fantasy romance set in a world where every person is born with a glowing clock beneath the skin of their forearm; a living countdown that determines how much time they have left.
In the three crumbling zones surrounding the Keep, people spend their lives terrified of the moment the bells ring and their clocks begin to fade. The powerful Time Keeper controls the system from the center of the city, redistributing stolen time while the poor disappear younger every year.
Rysa has spent her entire life hiding one dangerous secret:
She was never born with a clock.
In a world where everyone is tethered to time, being clockless should be impossible; and fatal if discovered.
But when her best friend Mara is suddenly called to a fading despite still having years left on her clock, Rysa instinctively does the impossible in front of a mysterious stranger watching from the shadows:
She stops time from being taken.
Now whispers of an anomaly begin spreading through the zones, and Rysa finds herself caught in the attention of Kaine, a sharp tongued, dangerously observant guard connected to the Keep who seems to know far more about her than he should.
Kaine was sent to investigate rumors of someone unnatural hiding in the zones.
What he didn’t expect was to become obsessed with the one thing the system cannot control.
As the city closes in around them, Kaine offers Rysa something she has never had before:
Answers.
But the deeper Rysa is pulled toward the Keep, the more she begins to uncover the horrifying truth behind the clocks, the fading ceremonies, and the man ruling over all of them.
Because time in this world is stolen, not given.
And Rysa may be the only person capable of stopping it.
