Living or studying in malaysia as a foreinger
Salam, I have a question about how Malaysians view foreigners who study or live in Malaysia.
I’m from the Netherlands and have Moroccan heritage, and I’m considering doing an exchange year in Malaysia. One reason is that it’s a Muslim-majority country, but I also really want to experience Malaysian culture.
My first question is: how do Malaysians generally feel about Moroccans or North Africans? Is there any prejudice or discrimination toward us?
My second question is about safety, especially for women and foreign women. How safe is Malaysia overall?
I’d also like to know what I should understand about Malaysian culture before moving there, and which cities are considered the best for students or foreigners to live in.
Also, what is the best way to learn more about Malaysian culture before coming? Do you have any recommendations for YouTube channels, movies, podcasts, or other resources that give a realistic view of daily life and culture in Malaysia?
