I cannot get over the fact that there was nothing that could done. This loss really hurt me and it got to the point where I needed more opinions about this.

A little backstory:

My brother had really been wanting another dog and managed to convince my parents to get one. He was a corgi mix and we had gotten him at 9 weeks old. He was a little ball of energy and he surprisingly got along with our 9 year old chihuahua. He loved to chew on things and never got passed the teething stage because of the accident.

Fast forward to the present:

This Monday, he was run over by my brother. It could have been easily avoidable if we were just more aware of where he was at and we blame ourselves ever since it has happened. He was unable to stand on his left rear leg and we immediately took him to our nearest vet clinic. We assumed he may have broken his leg, but when x-rays were done, we were shocked to find out that it was a pelvic fracture. The doctor informed us that surgery would be costly, which we could not afford. The other option was to put him down which we weren’t ready to do. The doctor contacted an orthopedic specialist to get an estimate of the cost. When we heard back, the doctor said that there was a possibility that he could remove the broken part of the femoral head and leave the rest to heal. The surgery would’ve only ran us up 700-$800, so we went with that option. With our hopes up, he sent us back home with our little corgi and scheduled his surgery for Wednesday, two days later. In the meantime, we kept him in a cage. He was urinating fine, but he had not pooped. I’m not sure if it was because he had not been eating much or if there was another problem. Anyways, on surgery day our hopes died. We heard back from the doctor that he had attempted the procedure, but that the fracture area had moved about 2 inches and it was out of his ability to go further. He sent new x-rays to an orthopedic specialist, but we did not hear back soon enough, so we took him to an emergency hospital. Even though surgery could have been out of our budget, we did not want to fully rule it out yet. We were told that surgery would probably run us $8k, which was way out of our budget, but we wanted to explore donation options. Unfortunately, they had also sent x-rays to another orthopedic specialist and that is when they declared that nothing could be done to fix the fracture. It was very difficult for us, but we had no other choice but to end his suffering. He was only 4 months old. I’ve been denying the fact that nothing could be done and I wanted to get an opinion from the media. Could he have been saved if the first procedure was done sooner? Could he have been saved at all?

I will also provide x-rays here:
