I’m two months into a buyer role with zero formal procurement / buyer background. I’ve been tasked with a specific supplier project and I dived all in. Built a template, scorecard, pricing analysis, and presentation largely on my own with minimal mentorship. I’ve been heavily self-auditing as I’m terrified I’m messing up somewhere. I’ve learned a lot and enjoy the challenge but I know there is SO much I don’t know.
Is it normal to feel like you’re operating without a safety net this early? How much do you verify your own analysis before presenting to leadership? And how do you build confidence in your numbers when no one is actively reviewing your work? I just wish I had more guidance. I really want to do my job well
My supervisors are pulled in a lot of directions and I try not to hold it against them.
I’m trying hard to swim and not sink..
Any advice for someone completely new to this type of work, it’s appreciated!
