Cricket West Indies and NCL Canada Inc. Advance Strategic Partnership Surrounding Global T20 and Development of the Sport in Canada

In the light of the recent allegations surrounding Canadian cricket, I am not sure Cricket West Indies is the right organisation to steer Canada back to the straight and narrow.

Not saying that CWI have corruption problems [though they do in some local T10 competitions], more that they can't keep their players from spreading throughout the globe in every T20 franchise there is.

Canada T20 World Cup match under ICC corruption investigation

It is all allegations so far, but a lot of allegations (and a lot of shady stuff) goes on among the countries just below Test level, and I can't help but think that there is a link to how tantalisingly close those teams (and players) are to being fully professional, but simply are not which tempts them to cut corners.

Not saying that ICC shouldn't come down on this like a tonne of bricks, but the associate funding means that teams 13-20 ish are like 75% pro but are always playing high pressure matches because failure to qualify is such a setback.

At the same time the players at this level are so close, but not quite, to a level of pay that could allow them to be full time cricketers.

I might be naive, as it seems from Ireland that the level of funding is never enough, but you don't get the same dodgy allegations, just moaning and the occasional PR own goal.

*shrugs*
