Hey guys, I'm a 29+1 year old male who's been trying to enlist since about August of last year.
I'm looking for some guidance here regarding this disqualification I got back in December, particularly just to make sure my current plan is sound.
Unfortunately, when I got this letter, I didn't get much guidance from my recruiter; he just forwarded me to the Army. I tried with them and they also ended up disqualifying me, but I got a bit more insight into why; their decision was due to the combination of all 3 issues, not that these issues were big disqualifiers individually. This sent me down the thought path that, if I resolve at least some of these issues, I may have a chance if I try again. I reached back out to my AF recruiter, and it sounds to me like I have the ability to try again with new documentation, so I've been working on getting these issues resolved and documented.
For the first condition here: I have an active mild obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis from my sleep specialist, which I have been working with them to resolve for a few years now. A few months ago, I had one more procedure done to resolve this. Once I'm done healing from this procedure, I will be getting another sleep test done to see if this has eliminated the diagnosis. If so, I'll be sending the test results to my recruiter.
Regarding the second condition, I had mentioned to my recruiter that I was seeing a therapist over signs of a particular mental disorder I thought I may have had (not a serious one). Just before I started talking to this therapist, I had them do a full psych eval of me (which I provided to my recruiter), and they officially found no mental disorders. Since this eval, I've been talking to the therapist, and the issues that I thought I had were really just from to work-related stress, and I have a letter from them illustrating this and that they have found no evidence of any mental disorder. One bout of unemployment and a new employer later, I'm not concerned about these potential issues anymore, so I was planning to tell my recruiter I'm no longer going to the therapist and provide the aforementioned letter.
Regarding the last item, I was officially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in 2022. After some diet changes, regular exercise, and about 100 lbs of weight loss, I've since cleared this diagnosis without the help of any prescription drugs. I had the active diagnosis removed from my record back in December not long after this letter, but my A1C levels were below the pre-diabetic range many months before (I recall the MEPS doctor seeing the record of this and commenting). However, since it does state "HISTORY of type 2 diabetes", I'm assuming they're worried about my overall metabolic health being a problem down the line. So, I got with my doctor a few months ago and had a bunch of bloodwork and tests done specifically over my metabolic health. All of the results looked really good, so I was planning to provide my recruiter the results from these tests when I'm ready to retry.
Between the (hopefully good) sleep test results, the letter from my therapist, and my metabolic bloodwork test results, is there anything else I should do to give me the best chance of getting waivers for these? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
