Hello! I have some Sea Clay and wanted to try to make a facial soap. Before I actually make it though I wanted some input on the recipe I came up with. I have all these oils on hand, but I don’t want to waste them if my percentages could be way off and cause issues with the soap.

The main goal is a soap that is cleansing and moisturizing for acne prone skin (specifically the face).

Sea Clay Face Soap

I’m using a 3% super fat and a 33% lye concentration.

Water: 10.82 oz
Lye: 5.33 oz
Coconut oil (76 degrees): 10.73 oz (29%)
Kokum Butter: 2.59 oz (7%)
Olive oil: 16.28 (44%)
Avocado Oil: 5.55 oz (15%)
Castor oil: 1.85 oz (5%)

2 tsp sea clay from Brambleberry. No fragrance

Thanks for any feedback!

Hi again, I wanted to get some perspective and this sub was helpful when I was looking for business banking accounts.

I’ve registered an LLC and want to sell homemade soap, body butters, bath bombs, etc. I’m still in the process of getting my seller’s permit and business insurance.

I’d like to launch in June/July but I’m still working on a couple of things for my soap recipe to fix something I don’t like with them. The type of soap I make is called cold process soap and it takes a minimum of 4-6 weeks to cure, but can take longer depending on the soap recipe.

So here’s my question I guess. I’ve made a soap that I think will become my go to base recipe. But I won’t know for sure for another 3 weeks to see if it fixed the issue from my previous ones. If I wait the 3 weeks before making my other batches then I’ll need to wait another 4-6 weeks before those would be ready to sell, which pushes my launch date.

Should I wait and confirm the recipe or go ahead make more soap with this recipe I think works? I don’t want to waste my ingredients but I want to try to get some summer business as some of my soaps are summer themed (aloe soap, beach scented, etc.) And I was hoping to be up and running for Father’s Day with some gift baskets that include soap, beard balms, etc. (I’ve already missed my original goal for Mother’s Day.)

I also want to get somewhat established before the holiday season so I can get the holiday/gift giving traffic.

With that said, I also don’t want to put a subpar product out there. If people don’t like it, they won’t be repeat customers or gift the soaps to other potential customers or be a word of mouth reference.

Let me know if there’s any details I didn’t provide that would help. I appreciate any feedback or suggestions, maybe a strategy for launching/soft launching I haven’t thought of. Thanks!

Edit to add: I thought about just selling the bath bombs and body/beard butters while waiting for the soap to cure but I have soap in my company name and I just feel weird not offering soap to sell when I “open”. Is it stupid to be caught up on a word in my company name?
