Just some observations about the current Parliament from a random internet user

So, this is coming from someone who is not really active in politics and is just another random person on the internet, but from what I’ve been seeing lately about our new government:

  • Balen is basically mute now.
  • Harke is slowly becoming a joke.
  • Ashika Tamang keeps contradicting herself after getting elected.

These are honestly the main things I keep seeing during the limited time I spend online. And I kinda understand why people are saying these things too.

Like with Balen, before becoming PM he always felt loud and active. Now it’s just press releases, meetings, and silence. Maybe he’s actually working behind the scenes, idk, but the difference feels huge.

As someone from a neighbouring district of Sunsari, I remember how much people used to genuinely love Harka. A lot of us liked him because of his activist-first mentality and his ideology. Whether people agreed with everything or not, he clearly looked like someone who actually wanted change instead of just giving speeches like traditional politicians.

Me and my friends used to go to Dharan pretty often just for fun, and back then it was honestly hard to avoid the Harka praise in the city. People talked about him like he was different from the usual politicians. The energy around him felt very positive.

But around 5 months ago, we went to Dharan again for one of our friend’s birthday celebrations, and the vibe felt completely different. We randomly asked some locals what they thought about Dharan and Harka, and surprisingly most of the opinions we got were negative. Some people were straight up saying he turned out to be a fraud and that next election he might lose a lot of votes.

That honestly surprised me because the sentiment shift was very noticeable compared to before. It felt like people still respected his activism, but expectations had become much higher once he actually got power.

Still, despite all that criticism online and offline, he managed to win the election again, which is still a good thing in a way. At least it shows people still have some level of hope in him or believe he can improve.

And Ashika’s situation is kinda obvious too. A lot of her old “anti-system” statements don’t really match with how she has to act now that she’s actually inside the system and part of the ruling side.

I’m not even trying to hate on them because I still think things changing was necessary. But at the same time, I think a lot of them are just too new to national-level politics and nation-building in general. Most of these “rebel” figures are still trying to figure things out after suddenly jumping from activism and local politics into running an actual country. People like Balen, Rabi, and a few others already had more exposure and experience dealing with larger systems, but many of the newer faces still feel inexperienced sometimes.

For example, with Sudhan Gurung, I do think some things from his past should probably be investigated properly instead of blindly ignored. But at the same time, I also feel like he got stuck between the old political system and the ideology of the new movement, which probably created a lot of complications around him.

Even then, I still liked his vigor and how proactive he seemed compared to many traditional politicians who usually just sit around and talk.

Maybe this is just the reality of what happens when “new faces” actually get power. Things gets messy slow and unorganized but I just hope that everything is sedated and thing will improve for the better.
