Currently paying off the Melbourne townhouse I live in with my partner and we’re considering taking on another loan and using the equity and some big savings to buy land and build a “country escape” about 90 minutes from Melbourne. I’m dragging my feet due to predictions of endless maintenance time and costs which I believe would outweigh the benefits.

I’m also thinking the land / build $$$ would be better off invested elsewhere with leftovers for weekends away in an Air BnB we don’t have to maintain. Any good/bad experiences / hot takes?

We’re both 40, no dependents, decent incomes.
