Managing recurring seizures in a border collie — tracking tools / advice?
Hi all,
I just stumbled onto this part of Reddit and I’m really glad I found it.
My 6-year-old border collie has been having seizures since she was about a year old. They happen roughly every 3–4 months, last around 10–15 minutes, and it can take a few hours for her to fully come out of it afterward.
We’re not entirely sure how to classify them — they seem similar to grand mal seizures, but her mouth doesn’t open during the episode.
She’s currently on Keppra daily, and we use Valium during seizures. Otherwise, she has a clean bill of health — bloodwork is normal, and no tumors have been found.
We’ve set up cameras at home to monitor her when we’re out, but I’m trying to find ways to make this more manageable long-term. The stress every few months is honestly exhausting.
I’m wondering if anyone has experience with things like tracking collars, seizure alert devices, or even “Fitbit-style” monitors for dogs? Have any tools or systems made this easier for you to manage or given you peace of mind?
I’d really appreciate any advice, ideas, or things that have helped you cope — both practically and emotionally.
Thank you 🤍
