I started a petition because students in professional programs at the University of Michigan deserve a fair shot before their futures are destroyed.
Here's the reality: A student can face severe academic penalties, even a failing grade that tanks their entire standing, without getting a meaningful chance to challenge the decision first. One student declined to be recorded during a clinical rotation, raised concerns, and was removed from the rotation. That removal automatically became a failing grade. They had documentation supporting their side, but the university's grievance process moved so fast it effectively blocked any real review before the damage was done.
When students can be penalized without neutral review, without their evidence being fairly considered, and without a real opportunity to be heard, something is broken. This isn't about lowering standards. It's about basic fairness.
We're asking U of M to guarantee timely grievance access *before* final penalties, require independent review, actually consider submitted evidence, and stop letting administrative speed traps replace due process.
Anyone else think this crosses a line? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.
