I received a letter earlier this month that states:
"Thank you for your public service. As of the date of this letter, we have determined you are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or Temporary Expanded PSLF (TEPSLF) on one or more of your loans."
"Your loan servicer will send you a communication about PSLF/TEPSLF forgiveness within 30 business days. You don't need to take any action as you await this update from your loan servicer. To monitor the status of your loan forgiveness, you can log into your account with your servicer. Congratulations on reaching 120 qualifying payments for Public Service Loan Forgiveness."
The listed effective date of forgiveness is 4/30/2023. This is the golden letter correct?
I reached out to my loan servicer (edfinancial) to ask them about this and because my IDR recertification is due on 5/16/2026. They stated that they have not received the official certified report to discharge my loans. They further stated that I needed to recertify my IDR because processing this discharge on their end could take several months.
I am confused on this given the 30 business day language in the FSA letter and some advice on here to request a forbearance.
I am also a bit worried on whether the forgiveness will take effect because although I was employed in public service on the effective date listed on the letter (4/30/2023), I no longer am.
Should I recertify my IDR and is there any concern for discharge issues given that I am no longer employed in public service?
