Orange pipe underground???

Went to plant a lilac today, and ran into this orange pipe. We had the utility companies already mark everything and nothing was marked near this side of our property. We do have underground sprinklers, but it doesn’t look like it would line up with where they’re at. Also, the line is next to our detached garage, which doesn’t have anything hooked up to it besides electric (which comes from the house). House is on the right garage is on left. What could this be????

Hey everyone,

About two weeks ago my AC stopped working, so I took my car in and found out the condenser was damaged. I was quoted about $1400 to repair it.

Some background:

2023 Subaru Crosstrek Premium that I bought new in October 2022. I have the Gold Plus Warranty (7yr/70k)- currently at 69,600. Always UTD on routine maintenance.

I rushed to the dealership because of the mileage, hoping it was just something that failed and would be covered. Since it’s damage to the condenser it’s not covered under the warranty, as it only covers manufacturer defects.

After doing some research, it sounds like this is a somewhat common issue on Crosstreks (and possibly other Subarus). The service guy even said this isn’t uncommon on crosstreks and Ascents.

If I replace it, the condenser is only covered under a 3 year manufacturer warranty. If it gets hit while I’m on the interstate home from the dealer, I’d be out another $1400. The only prevention advice I got when I asked was to install some kind of mesh/hardware cloth in front of it.

I understand and get that damage happens, and that this is a part of car ownership, but if this is fairly common and Subaru hasn’t redesigned or offered any way to fix this or prevent it, why should i have to eat the expense? I have never had this issue on my Honda or other vehicles that I own.

I opened a claim with Subaru of America on Friday but haven’t heard back yet (they said 2 business days).

Has anyone gotten Subaru to cover this (fully or partially) as goodwill? If so, any tips for dealing with them to improve my chances?

Also- has anyone installed the mesh guard that actually works? If so, I’d love to hear how so that I can install it on mine to prevent this in the future.

Thanks for reading, I’m just trying to avoid eating a $1400 repair if there’s a chance Subaru will step in.
