Surgery w/ Dr Wrubel (1 week post-op)

Just wanted to make a quick post to add to the positive experiences with Dr Wrubel at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids Michigan.

I am currently 1 week post-op (DI with FNG) and couldn’t be happier with my results/medical care experience!

When contacting the office about scheduling a consultation I was originally looking to see Dr. Hop, but opted for Dr Wrubel due to her sooner availability. At the time I called (May 2025) they were scheduling consults for Dr Wrubel into November 2025.

Leading up to the consult I was nervous about the chest evaluation portion of things/related dysphoria, but was really happy to experience a great amount of care and intention during the actual exam to make sure I was comfortable.

After the exam I was told by Dr Wrubel that due to my chest size/shape (small-medium/higher nipple position) that my scars would likely be higher than the contour of my pec muscle, but that she would try to get them as low as possible. While this did slightly worry me, she was very reassuring and I felt confident that she really would do as much as she could to lower the scar.

About a month and a half after my consultation I received a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I do know that I was planning to schedule out past the actual earliest time I could have gotten surgery, so my wait period of about 5 months from consultation to surgery likely isn’t the best estimate for how far out they tend to schedule. They were also very easy to reach with general questions and to ask about insurance information, which allowed me to get an estimate of the surgery cost by calling insurance before actually being billed.

I was quite nervous for the actual surgery just due to my slight fear of anesthesia, but on the day of everyone was super friendly and reassuring, and I felt like I was in good hands going into the OR. I’ve struggled before with being freaked out when the anesthesiologist says they are administering the anesthesia and then feeling panicky as it put me to sleep, so this was my main worry for this surgery. Luckily, they gave me calming meds while doing the nerve blocks in my chest before giving me the anesthesia, so I felt totally calm throughout the whole thing.

Overall I highly recommend Dr. Wrubel and her team, they have been amazing!
