I bought this delicates wash called Perk a few years ago but never got around to trying it until today. Couldn’t find any info on this product here so thought I’d share my experience using it to hand wash silk.

I thrifted a cream-colored silk blouse with sweat stains/yellowing around the armpits. I first tried an initial hand wash with Eucalan, which did nothing. Perk is advertised as a delicates wash that works on any fabric, in cold water no less. I was skeptical, but gave it a go following the instructions: 3 parts water (I used tepid) to one part Perk and soak for 1.5 hours. I used an empty pretzel jar for a wash basin and didn’t agitate the blouse at all once it was submerged. After the soak, per the instructions I did a water rinse followed by a mild vinegar rinse to remove residual cleaner, followed by another water rinse.

It worked pretty well! Not sure how well it reflects in the photos, but the yellow ring around the armpit is gone. There may still be the smallest bit of discoloration remaining at the fabric seam, but you’d have to look very closely. I’ll try adding a splash of DNAse next time.

Has anyone else tried this stuff? Any idea what’s in it??

I found this statement on their website interesting: “We have soaked garments (including taffeta) in Perk for more than a week and have had no problem. There is nothing in the product that will harm any fabric no matter how long it is soaked.”
