There are a few main challenges that I can't seem to overcome.
When the hair line drops, it leads to geometry getting more spread out in the falling section, or I up the geometry and then there's a whole bunch of geometry packed together in the high section. Is this just the way modelling is or is there a better way?
I have no idea how to make the hair stick nicely to the surface of the head. My current strategy was to just add a solidify modifier so it would clip into the head, but it looks bad and I'm sure there must be a better way. I want to avoid doing the "duplicate a portion of the head" trick because I want these hair pieces to be somewhat modular so that I can fit them on multiple heads.
I've been using looptools for the curves which is ok, but I really want the control of a bezier curve. The only problem is the curve modifier has never worked for me when i try to apply it to a vertex group (last two images). No matter what deform axis I use the vertices all seem to be stretched around, and no amount of scaling or rotating seems to fix it.
Finally I am struggling with general clean up at the end. Things are still lumpy from being moved around and I don't know how to approach them.
I would love to hear everyone's tips and workflows! I still feel like I'm fighting with the software instead of creating with it and I really want to get over these hurdles.
