Hi everyone!

Looking for some help getting music onto my 2002 iPod Gen 2 (a1019).

I know you can do it using a dongle chain: Thunderbolt 3 → Thunderbolt 2 → FW800 → FW400 - but those dongles add up to around $150.

Instead, I picked up a MacBook Pro 2011 with native FW800 for $60.

My plan is to rip my CDs on the MBP 2011 and then sync everything to the iPod Gen 2. My MBP is running Catalina 10.15.7.

My question: should it just work once I connect everything, or is there any modding/hacking involved first?

I won an auction for a 2nd gen iPod with original box and accessories and plan to use it as my home music listening device.

I also picked up a MacBook Pro 2011 with Catalina 10.15.7, along with a FW800 to FW400 adapter since the MBP 2011 has native FW800.

My question is: should it just work once I connect everything, or does any modding/hacking need to be done first?

I own an iPod gen 4 and Touch gen 4 and the sync process is super simple since they're recognized in Apple Music — but I'm nervous about gen 2.
