Hello! I’m taking onto Reddit because I need all the help I can get and this is super duper urgent.
Should I apply for vice president student council? Does it help w med sch applications in Uni?
So for context I’m a J1 this year and I’m an aspiring medial student. I know that portfolio matters a lot alongside grades which is why I’ve been signing up for quite a few VIA’s, I have 2 hospital attachments with one I’m awaiting a reply for, I have a VIA project I’m spearheading about metal health and I’m going to be working closely with BMDP (bone marrow donation programme singapore) to hold an event to get bone marrow donors from my school. I have a lot on my plate, I’m in a sport Cca that’s 3days x 2hours a week, and I just got into student council.
My dilemma stems from the fact that i don’t know if I should run for vice president of council or not. I’m a good leader and I’m passionate because I genuinely like this school so much and it’s opportunity to finally be able to serve this school and be in a position of responsibility.
However I am scared about the impacts on my grades. I got 90% for econs, but my math exam went not so decent because the first qn bamboozled me and the second qn I didn’t realise I had to dy/dx and I lost 5 useless marks. For bio, I lost 4m from content lapses and 3m from some weird qn that I deciphered wrongly so again a content lapses and maybe 2m because one qn was lowkey weird. I haven’t gotten my results for bio and maths, but I know it won’t be glorious — I’m hoping to scrape by with a low A for bio and B or maybe C for maths. In secondary school bio and maths were my strongest so this exam freaked me out to no return.
The qn: should I apply for vice president for council? I still have time to study and fix my foundation for the next wa in like 3 months and I’m disciplined now esp after those exams. But does vice presidency even matter?? Will it help my application for med sch?
