Every human being in the world has been through some sort of shit, so everyone is technically a “victim” of something. How frequently the person wants to discuss what happened to them is their prerogative.
I would have much more respect for Selena if she said something like “while my past doesn’t excuse my mistakes, it does provide context for why I behaved the way I did, and I am still working on myself.” However, whenever Selena and her fans bring up her past, it’s used to shield her from any sort of accountability. Lying about plastic surgery while preaching natural beauty? LuPuS! Manufacturing online hate trains? JuStIn WaS A ToXiC BoYfRiEnD!
As a result, Selena’s past feels more like a manipulation tactic against anyone who legitimately criticizes her rather than an inspiring story of growth and resilience.
It's funny cuz my Fi makes me feel things deeply sometimes, even though I'm slow to reveal it to people I haven't come to trust yet. But when I have tried to explain how I feel to counselors or therapists, they say I sound logical, analytical, or descriptive. Like just today, I showed my counselor a script for a personal project of mine. She said it was good, but she couldn’t see much of my personality in it.
At the same time, I recognize that intellectualizing my feelings has helped me distance myself from my past traumas in order to move forward.
Can any other ISTJ's relate?
I simply don't understand why anyone would want to dedicate years of their lives to ruminating on a celebrity couple from a decade ago. Some people have even created entire PLATFORMS on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to fuel their Jelena fantasies, even though Justin is married and has his own family now. And these people are ADULTS in their 20s and 30s.
I know it's easy to dismiss their fantasies as just"obsessive", but the fact that it's lasted this long tells me there's got to be a deeper meaning behind this social phenomenon. I'm curious to hear your thoughts about the psychology surrounding all this.
