Newbie here and disappointed in CrossFit?

Hey everyone, I've been going to the gym for some time and running for 1.5 years. I did a few times Hyrox and after that I heard that it's kind of a subset of CrossFit.

So I decided to try CrossFit classes in local box.

And I am a bit confused.

Just hear me out, I am not here to bash CrossFit. I just want to understand the thinking and if I am missing something.

First day

We had this WOD:

AMRAP: 400 m run, 15 air squats, 10 push ups, 5 strict pull ups.

And after that workout, there are NO pull ups for over a week.

Another strength class (once a week):

Overhead press 1 rep max; dealift 5 rep max; 24 minutes for 400m run, 9 box jumps, 6 devil press, 12 lunges.

And that's what I don't get.

I can't imagine getting better at deadlift for example without doing a progressing overload. Same with pull ups. You need to train those separatly, log them and overload with time. If you just do them as part of WOD once in a while, it's kind of way too random and not enough to get better?

Sure, I'm sore. But that doesn't mean I got stronger.

Next issue

There is NO running beyond 600 m.

Since I've been running for 1.5 years, I know that you can't get better at running without doing base, Z2, intervals, etc. So when we started doing running, I could see how taxing it is for most people. And I felt bad for them, because I don't think they'll ever improve their aerobic base by doing 600 m runs between stations.

In my head the idea behind crossfit was to be as versitile in wide range of domains as possible. And I thought CrossFit would have smart programming around strength, running, endurance, calisthetics... but it kind of seems too random for me to improve? Am I missing something?

Is it just a bad box?

Because I my head I love the idea of CrossFit - be the generalist. I want to be able to jump high, run long, sprint fast, do handstands and all of that. But I can't imagine getting there without proper periodization and overload over time?

Hey everyone! I need your help. My cat somehow got into the cupboard and managed to open it and get like three packages of snacks. The packages appear very, very torn, and a lot of plastic is missing. I'm afraid that he ate plastic.

What should we do? He doesn't show any symptoms, and I think it was fairly recent. He also ate like 1.5, almost 2, packages of snacks, and he got a little bit of sticks. How dangerous is it? What should I do right now?

Cat 2.5 years old, male, former street cat, not former issues.
