mainstream English and English language

Im in year 10 and i’m debating which english is right for me bc i hate English. I’m also not that good at it because i usually struggle to come up with ways to word or structure paragraphs. I also find myself currently struggling in year ten english… especially writing about romeo and juliet.

But i just don’t know which will benefit me the best since i dont know much about eng lang, but one my teachers have said that eng lang would probably be the best option if mainstream english is not my thing. But at the same time i’m also scared to do eng lang since a guy from a tutoring program came to my school and started saying how it’s bad to pick eng lang or lit bc the people doing it are actually good at the subject, whereas the people doing mainstream English are split into the 50% who are doing english bc it’s compulsory and the other 50% who are genuinely good at english. I don’t really get how that would be better tho

So i basically just need some advice on if i should just stick to doing mainstream english

Im also confused whether eng lang is harder than eng main or are they just different
