hi everyone. im 16m, I lived in syria for only 3 years in my life (2010-2013) then living in lebanon 2 years until moving to canada in late 2015 and been there ever since.

clearly my arabic is not the best. Yes, i can have conversations with my parents and such but my writing and reading ability is poor. i can read arabic when it’s clearly written but the other day I saw a photo of my syrian passport and the part where there is handwriting is just so impossible for me to read it looks like a bunch of scribbling. and my writing is even worse than my reading so there’s that

Ive thought about reading arabic books but I already know that they will have lots of unfamiliar terms and words so I’m not very sure what I should do

I already took a basic arabic course online about 2 years ago and while it did help, it was more about the foundations than actual writing and reading

do you think changing my phone language to arabic would help? Maybe listening to Arabic podcasts, watching shows/movies could also work.

answers are welcome from anyone but I’d love to hear from fellow diaspora who also have suffered from this problem. thanks!

hi everyone. im 16m, living in canada and been here most my life. syrian parents
i honestly dont know how to extract my thoughts fully into written form so I’ll try my best

My reason for doubting God is both generally towards all religions but also for islam so I’ll make a section for doubting god in general and one for Islam.

religion / god

my doubt here is based on the simple question to why we exist. ill try to express this as much as I’m able to and i hope you‘ll understand

So, if god exists It means he created earth right? meaning, there was a point when it was just god and whatever he had created by that point (angels and heaven, something like this?) and then the earth came to be by his will. this draws me to the question, why? why would god all poweful and comfortable and what not, need to create a world where you need to worship him piously and if you do not worship him enough you go to hell? and then with this god decides to create religions and you need to follow the right one presumably with the right interpretation or you go to hell

more islamic-centred doubts

many religions have the concept of bringing victory to god, including islam. but why so? why do we need to bring victory to god when he’s all powerful and mighty? this draws back to my first point - why would god decide to create the earth and create humans and make them fight each other in the name of god

in islam, after the major events of the day of judgement and the end of the world , Allah will ask

”To whom is the authority today?”

لمن الملك اليوم؟

and no one replies because we’re all dead so he replies to himself

”To Allah, the one, the irresistible ”
للآه الواحد القهار

and I just wrote it in arabic since it seems more natural and typing it in English seems weird

(even tho my arabic writing/reading are kinda mediocre)

my problem with this also ties back to the same whole picture of the purpose of earth / humans. so you’re telling me Allah, himself decides to create earth, want to be worshipped enough, want people to establish his rule and in the end all of this which he has created he says who holds all the power today? Like, I cant help but say that this seems like… one big show? Because why are you saying whom is the authority to today when you’re the one that created this whole.. mess? probably a better word out there but yea

- allah says that our destiny is already written before we were born. meaning all of us have already been decided whether we go to hell or heaven. So why go through the whole life cycle if we already are destined to go there? I know some people will say you make your own choices and it’s your life ,but this life was ALREADY fixed/destined, this just doesnt make sense to me.

some small things that also just seem, well I don’t know the word but these concepts just seem out of touch. the hoor al ayn and the 72 virgins for men… the hijab/niqab especially puzzles me, why should you have to wear it your whole life with all the challenges that come across with it regarding discrimination and the immense heat in summer and also at what age are you even suppose to start wearing it? from what i understand it’s around 12 years old and, isn’t one of the main points for hijab is so men are to lower their gaze? which makes me wanna ask about.. yeah.there is also my issue with hadith just why do so many of them seem to be negative and such? many of them also seem to contradict the Quran so wouldn’t it be safer to just go with the Quran Only? Also a question to people here i see some that reject some Hadith but accept only certain ones that support their position, so should i / we only accept certain ones or reject all?

Athiesm | not believing in God/Islam

even though I’ve casted lots of doubts in god I still think that it’s much more logical if ‘a’ god did exist than not believe in one. it just seems impossible that everything around us was created by an accident. i also do have a hard time deciding on other religions because Islam seems different , the Qurans mentions of miracles, patterns and also scientifical facts which i find hard to believe a man 1400 years ago in the Arabian peninsula just came up with unless there was a divine factor to it. also athiesm in contradiction to Islam / any religion doesnt give a person a moral code meaning they do as they ‘feel’ so they could do bad acts without regret because nothing, no religious obligation stop them from doing that.

Something I noticed when you start doubting religion, just living daily life and being scolded on this religious matter and that religious matter makes you want to doubt it even more. I can’t count how many times I wanted to laugh During friday khutba because of how repetitive some of the things that are preached in gods name.

note; it’s a more critique of salafi interpretation since i know some of these things are opposed to in progressive muslim views. Im posting it here because this will probable get taken off the regular Islam sub. Also I still consider myself a Muslim and I pray 5 times day on time.

that’s it. some typos and grammar issues or anything you don’t understand just let me know and I’ll be happy to answer. thanks for ur time and replies

1 - Significant non-Arab populations in the claimed “Arab homeland“. I’m mainly referring to North Africa, but also Kurds as well. Oh, especially the Kurds, because they’ve literally been genocided under so-called pan Arab governments. should they get their own autonomy? In the end they are a distinct people and shouldn’t they be given the right to self determination?

2 - the question of secularism and islam. islam is inseparable from Arab society which i think most will agree, but where do we draw the line? as in, do we want a theocracy like iran or soft secularism while emphasizing the positive role of religion in society (like Nasser) or no religion at all in politics?

Thanks

the first one is surah-baqara 2:11. it’s commonly used against progressive Muslims, the verse being
“And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

like, it almost seems as if it’s targeting this whole idea of progressive muslims ?

The second one was a Hadith i read about prophet Muhamed peace be upon him saying that islam will be split into 73 sects but that we shouldn’t worry because the majority will stay on the right path…. and progressive islam is definitely not in the majority. i know it’s a Hadith and some people here do not accept hadith and personally for me I also have a problem with some hadiths because a lot of them either contradict each other / the Quran and some of them are really easy to be seen in a negative aspect which some people use to criticize islam.

thanks
