Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a tricky situation and would really appreciate insights from people who’ve gone through the Malaysia student visa process.
I currently have (or will likely have soon) an offer from Xiamen University Malaysia for a foundation program. It’s a solid option, but not my top choice.
My preferred option is University of Malaya, but they require my final attested certificate, which I’ll only get in early June. That might be late for their intake / visa timeline.
So I’m considering this path:
- accept Xiamen
- proceed with visa (Student Pass via EMGS)
- if UM works out later → switch before even going to Malaysia
What I’m trying to understand:
- Has anyone actually:
- enrolled in one Malaysian university
- got the student visa approved
- then switched to another university before arriving?
- How messy was the process in reality?
- Did you have to fully cancel and reapply?
- Any issues with EMGS or immigration?
- Timing-wise:
- Did switching delay your intake?
- Were you able to make the same intake or had to defer?
- Any hidden risks?
- visa rejection on second application
- issues getting a release letter
- complications if the first uni already processed your pass
I’m trying to figure out if this is a reasonable backup strategy or if it just creates more problems than it solves.
Would really appreciate real experiences (especially Malaysia-specific). Thanks!
