I’ve been on Retatrutide for about 7 months now and I’m not completely happy with the results, so I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
Stats:
- 28M, 5’8
- Starting weight: 188 lbs
- Current weight: 168 lbs
- Goal: 145–155 (trying to get as lean as possible, then focus on building muscle)
I started low and slow back in October at 0.5mg and gradually titrated up. In the beginning, weight loss was very slow and honestly frustrating. Things started to pick up once I hit around 5mg — that’s when I finally saw the kind of progress I was expecting.
The problem is it didn’t last.
I eventually worked my way up to 9mg, but my weight has been stuck around 168 for a while now. No matter how much I lower calories or increase cardio, I can’t seem to break below that number.
Training / Activity:
- Lift 6x/week (heavy training)
- 30–45 min cardio daily (mostly stairmaster + walking)
- ~10k steps/day from work + gym
Diet (fully tracked):
- Calories: 1,846
- Protein: 172g
- Carbs: 187g
- Fats: 45g
- Fiber: ~16g
All food is weighed and tracked. I’m working with a coach and sticking closely to the plan without much deviation.
Side effects:
Early on I had chest spasms/pain, which I believe was related to dehydration/electrolyte imbalance. That improved once I addressed hydration, but it has recently come back at times, possibly with lower calories/carbs.
I’ve had an EKG done and everything came back normal, but the discomfort still comes and goes. I’ve also noticed some anxiety and mild brain fog, which hasn’t helped. Because of this, I’ve started slowly tapering down.
Frustration:
I did lose ~20 lbs, which I know isn’t nothing, but for the level of effort (training, diet, cardio), I expected more—especially at higher doses. Also Unable to tolerate caffeine
At this point I’m not sure if:
- I’ve adapted to the calories
- This is just normal slowing down as I get leaner
- Or if something else is going on
Questions:
- Has anyone else hit a hard plateau like this on Retatrutide?
- Did anything help you break through it (diet changes, diet breaks, lowering cardio, etc.)?
- Did switching to something like tirzepatide make a difference?
I’m debating coming off and possibly switching, but wanted to hear from others with similar experiences first.
