Stay in school or build my career in financial planning?

I’m 31 and recently went back to school to pursue a teaching degree. Before this transition I was working in sales and make decent money. I hated commodity sales and the transactional process. I burnt out in my career up until I was laid off last year.

Long story short. I decided to pursue another 4-year degree while I was laid off. At the time it worked for me and my partner, but then we broke up.

To my luck, I got headhunted and offered a job in a Business Development role for a WM firm at Big 5 bank in Canada. It’s a stepping stone towards becoming a financial planner and all licensing is paid for by the company.

I finished my first year of the degree and took the job just to be making money, but I don’t know whether this path makes more sense than teaching or not.

I feel lost compared to so many people who’ve had a linear path in their careers and knew exactly what they wanted to do. I didn’t concentrate on my career enough until now. So not only do I feel lost, I feel foolish for not having gotten my act together.
