I am curious if there has ever been a published (or publicly available) English translation of Xunzi's books in which the translator actually translated what the words imply (and who did not merely use modern Chinese-English dictionaries, nor follow the Legge-Dubs style of continuous negativity).
Of the 100+ different translations of Dao De Jing that I have seen, most of the authors translated the words differently, which is okay because each translation illustrates each author's own personal firsthand experience (and inexperience) with each topic. Within the Xunzi translations, however, there is very little difference from Dubs' translation (including the incoherent phrasing and unwarranted negativity), which illustrates that the translators had merely copied and lightly paraphrased what Dubs had written (and Dubs' translations of other books had also merely copied-paraphrased Legge's translations).
I do recognize that the socially popular beliefs about Xunzi cannot now be corrected, but I would greatly enjoy seeing a translation in which the author had some firsthand experience within the topics that Xunzi spoke of.
