Hop is gone, now what?
Today I cloned my config repo to a new machine and was baffled to have my lazy setup fail on hop. I checked the github and it is a 404, so I guess the plugin is gone.
I've looked at Leap as a potential replacement, and while it gets a lot of what I wanted there is something about the mental model that isn't clicking for me. In theory you just type the first two characters of what you want then the label it gets associated. I don't know why, but I find that really hard to do consistently when going at speed. It's like I start off good, but then suddenly the third character is different and my fingers are already moving.
I know hop's approach didn't work for everyone, but as soon as I hit the key I could see the whole label string and type it immediately. With leap there is a slight (mental) delay where my fingers are typing too fast and the third (or fourth) character for the label simply doesn't exist by the time my fingers have decided what they will do.
Is there any way to get leap to match the behavior of hop or a maintained version of hop out there? If not, I'll probably eventually adapt to leap but it's really throwing me off because hop has been such an integral part of my muscle memory for a couple years now.
No disrespect to leap's author of course. The plugin works well. My brain just isn't adapted for it yet.
