I submitted my documents at the NYC consulate for NLV on 4 March. I am way over the financial threshold (I have veteran’s benefits) and provided all other items. I worked with a lawyer for 8+ months on putting together this paperwork.

On 8 April, I received a phone call from the consulate asking for more documentation. The consulate seemed confused about my previous visas in Spain—I had 2 consecutive 6-month student visas that did not allow for employment, and I had these visas through a language school in Barcelona. The consulate seemed to think I was employed to teach at this language school, and I needed to show my work visa and employment contract (two things that do not exist). They also asked for my 2021-2025 US tax returns.

On 17 April, I delivered my tax returns, a letter stating I did not work and could not work, as well as copies of my previous visas highlighted that I could not work and a letter from the language school that I completed the courses I was enrolled in.

On 29 April, I received a call from the consulate and this morning, 30 April, I received my rejection letter with the following reason:

Existen discrepancias entre lo declarado por la solicitante al presentar su solicitud de visado y la documentación que ha aportado con posterioridad, en lo referente a la estancia en España y la actividad que ha desarrollado durante su estancia.

My lawyer is simply baffled. I looked through my paperwork and nowhere does it say I was employed. I was always a student in Spain. I did not have permission to work in Spain.

The only thing I can think of is that when we were doing the interview, the lady asked about my previous time in Spain and I said I was a “language student” (the exact language used in all my documents to refer to my time in Spain) and she might have mistaken that for “language assistant” which is what they keep calling me.

Anyway long story short I told my lawyer to prepare an appeal. Because seriously what the heck. Does anyone know what this process looks like and what my chances are of approval now? Or should I just say adios?

Of course Ryan Murphy took many liberties with Love Story, the thing that continues to bother me is how he portrayed Carolyn as being agoraphobic. I understand that it was a limited series and based on Carolyn’s actual relationship with the paparazzi but I would’ve loved to see more of their relationship after marriage. They were married for three years and Murphy portrayed it as just being miserable the whole time.

I would’ve loved to get a scene recreating one of Carolyn’s famous interviews where she’s getting cheeky with the interviewer asking about all the hot guys, and Carolyn’s like “well i hope they all sit with me” 😌😌😌 Or the famous story of how they attended the White House Correspondents Dinner last minute.

Anyway I wanted more Carolyn Bessette Kennedy rather than a whole episode dedicated to talking about the tragedy of it all.
