2026-2027 Medical School SMP Sankey
I have never seen an SMP Sankey in my life, so I decided to post the first one in hopes that people can see whether they can get into these programs. Note that I’m not looking for advice on whether I should go into these programs, but rather to provide information for those who are looking to apply to them. Also, this is for the SMP version of the program and not the D.O. program. Without further delay, here are my stats.

Why SMP and not direct?
I have multiple reasons why I wanted to do an SMP instead of applying directly to medical school. The first was that I had a D on my transcript in a pre-med core requirement course. Although it was not the biggest deal in the world since it happened early on in university and I improved afterward, I still wasn’t confident in sending medical school applications with limited hours and a D on my transcript.
The second reason was the MCAT. I know a lot of people would just say to take a gap year and study for the MCAT instead of spending money on a master’s program. While that is a good solution for some people, it didn’t work for me. I already spent so much money on private tutors and online courses, but they were not helping me in that regard. I work much better in a sit-down classroom environment where I feel pressured to study. I also didn’t want to balance working and studying at the same time instead of focusing on studying, research, and medical school linkage opportunities all within one program.
The third reason is loans. Because of my loans, I would have needed to start working during a gap year. At this time, I haven’t found any good-paying positions that would allow me to repay my loans in a timely manner without risking missed payments.
The last reason is family/personal reasons. I’m not going to get into it, but it does play a factor.
All of these combined were my reasons for pursuing an SMP. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.
